The launch of NASA's Dawn spacecraft, a mission that will explore the two largest objects in the asteroid belt in an effort to answer questions about the formation of our solar system, has been rescheduled to September. The decision was made today to move the launch to September after careful review by NASA's Science Mission Directorate officials, working with Dawn mission managers, the Dawn principal investigator, and with the concurrence of the NASA Administrator.

Primary reasons for the move were a combination of highly limited launch opportunities for Dawn in July and the potential impact to launch preparations for the upcoming Phoenix Mars Lander mission, set for early August. A September launch for Dawn maintains all of the science mission goals a July launch would have provided.

NASA will hold a news briefing at 8:30 a.m. Pacific Time (11:30 a.m. Eastern Time) on Monday, July 9, to preview the launch of the Phoenix Mars Lander.

The Phoenix mission, scheduled for liftoff in early August from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., will examine whether the icy soil on Mars could have been a habitable environment for microbial life.

        美国国家科学院下属全国研究委员会6日公布名为《行星系统有机生命的局限》的报告，指出外星球生命的形态完全有可能不同于地球生命。

        报告说，目前探索地球外生命的努力均建立在这么一个假设上，即所有生命都离不开水、碳和脱氧核糖核酸（DNA）这三大要素。但这份报告认为地球外生命完全可能是一种无需水、碳、DNA的“异类生命”。

       报告更大胆提出，“异类生命”可能不需要由碳元素组成，或许能以硅元素为基本构成；DNA也不一定非要由磷元素构成，也许可用砷元素。

       新华网纽约７月７日电（记者王艳红）卡西尼探测器拍摄到的照片显示，土星最奇怪的卫星之一土卫七充满了孔洞，结构就像一块海绵。

       美国康奈尔大学的科学家在新一期英国《自然》杂志上发表报告，公布了卡西尼探测器拍摄的一张土卫七照片以及他们的分析结论。这张照片是卡西尼探测器２００５年９月拍摄的，清楚地显示了土卫七的多孔结构。

NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory has revealed an X-ray jet blasting away from a neutron star in a binary system. This discovery may help astronomers understand how neutron stars as well as black holes can generate powerful beams of relativistic particles. The jet was found in Circinus X-1, a system where a neutron star is in orbit around a star several times the mass of the Sun, about 20,000 light years from Earth. A neutron star is an extremely dense remnant of an exploded star consisting of tightly packed neutrons.

5日20时08分，我国在西昌卫星发射中心用“长征三号乙”运载火箭，成功将“中星6B”通信卫星送入太空.

“中星6B”卫星由法国泰雷兹阿来尼亚宇航公司研制生产，有38个转发器，设计工作寿命超过15年，中国卫星通信集团公司负责运营，卫星波束可覆盖亚洲、太平洋及大洋洲，投入使用后，将为中国及亚太地区卫星通信广播市场提供优质、可靠的通信和广播传输服务。

“长征三号乙”运载火箭由中国航天科技集团公司所属中国运载火箭技术研究院研制，这次发射是长征系列火箭的第101次飞行。

昨天，上海某报发布消息称“嫦娥一号”初步定在9月发射，探月工程首席科学家欧阳自远对此表示，该消息来源不可靠。他还透露，“嫦娥一号”的各项测试已经顺利完成，发射时间也已确定，但目前未到公布的时机。 上海的这家媒体引自未公开姓名的知情人士说，“嫦娥一号”发射时间初步定于今年9月。记者昨天 就此采访了欧阳自远，他说，根据他所了解的情况，该消息的来源是航科集团的一名专家，但这名专家并未参与嫦娥工程，所以发布的消息是不可靠的。他还透露，“嫦娥一号”的发射时间经过精确的计算已经确定，但目前未到公布的时机。
